I wonder how many of y'all realize what a unique and weird moment this is in
the LW universe.

Think about it.  Some of us are following the app into a new platform with a
choice of three different operating systems (using the term very loosely in
the case of Windows and Win95). Some of us are coming new to the app from
the platform. Many who haven't already done so will very likely end up
migrating to an industrial-strength OS, sooner rather than later. And few
foolhardy souls--don't tell me I'm the only one--are risking permanent
neural lockup by jumping into the app, a new OS, *and* animation all at once.

All this is a roundabout way of asking whether anyone knows where a newcomer
might find information on the slew of plug-ins that reside under the Custom
(aka Macro) button in Modeller. They are very neat, and some of them--like
"center"--are pretty much essential. But as far as I can tell,  they're
mainly undocumented in the manuals.

So far, I've been learning them basically by experimentation. In some cases
the name says it all. Last night,while modelling a knurled knob for a
scanner radio, I spotted the innocuous-looking "gear". Hmmm... open the
dialogue box, type in some likely values...hey, that works! Hit it with just
a touch of "taper1"... cool. One knurled knob in about 30 seconds. Lotsa
fun. And learning is supposed to be an adventure, right?

But at this point ,I'm willing to trade a little fun and adventure for a
quick jump up the learning curve. Besides, I know that there are plenty of
uses for these goodies that I'm not clever enough to discern. So, any
suggestions for sources of information would be much appreciated.

Seems to me that LWPro or Lightspeed or *somebody* might consider at least a
cursory article on what they are, how to make them useful,  beyond the
obvious. The situation will certainly not get any easier when the new
plug-ins start showing up. (Hey, that's not an article--that's a regular
column...)
